Cengal Besar Expedition

Yes, It has been a quite period I did not update this site.. and today flicking the precious time wondering, oh yes.. I got my blog which I have not visited for quite sometime.

Today, just want to share another great adventure to a place, which people rarely go; Kampung Pasir Raja, Dungun, Terengganu, Malaysia. Where the biggest Cengal Tree (Neobalanocarpus heimii) in the world is located.

Some facts of this three quoted from other site are as follos:- "A Cengal Besar tree near the border of Pasir Raja Forest Reserve, Dungun, with its 16.75 metres diameter at the base and 1,300 years old of age, has been verified by the Malaysian Book of Records as the biggest and oldest Cengal tree in Malaysia and the world. At a towering 65 meters in height, it stands majestically above the canopy of Pasir Raja Forest Reserve. The tree was first found back in 1999 oleh by a Ranger Officer of Durian Mas II, Encik Omar Mohamad. It takes about 2 hours to get to the location of the tree on a four-wheel-drive from Kampung Jongok Batu which is the last settlement before reaching the rainforest. Is is estimated that 27 lorries are needed to carry the woods if the tree is cut down."

The 13-15th February 2011 expedition gathered 11 of my ex ROTU colleagues back into the nature. Whilst the main objective was aiming for well known Kelah Merah, we also don't want to miss this lifetime opportunity to witness the nature wonder.

On 13/02/11, six 4x4 wheelers roars into the jungle. Venturing to no premix road, muds, obstercles and crossing few rivers. Winching is very minimum as most of the four wheels are equiped with jungle tyre, ready for the worst.

Journey from entrance of Cengal Besar from where all four tyre are enganged tooks approximately three hours to reach the first campsite. Not long after the campsite was set up, everyone is gearing up for hooks. The first day was merely fish and chats. Scenery was superb, and praise to Allah swt for the creation.

We managed to catch quite a good number of fishes (Most of it are ikan daun). Have it fried with the scales on. You will appreciate the taste more with the scales.. so cruncy.

Next day we moved to Kuala Loh. Another wonderful place, the closest camping site to Cengal Besar. Beside fishing, we also went for aprroximately one and a half hour trekking to view the biggest cengal tree. It tooks a total of three hours, to and fro from the camping site to cengal besar.

The trip was really fruitfull and for those who really like to blend themselves with nature and serenity.. it is really worth going.
